A deadly attack by the National Liberation Army (ELN) on a military base in eastern Colombia has left two soldiers dead and 21 others injured. The strike, involving homemade rockets fired from a cargo truck in Puerto Jordan, Arauca province, comes just weeks after a ceasefire with the Colombian government expired. President Gustavo Petro suggested the attack could lead to the suspension or cancellation of ongoing peace talks with the ELN, which has around 6,000 fighters. The ELN has been increasing its attacks following the ceasefire’s end, further destabilising the region and threatening the peace process.
