Parliament declines invitation for work visit to the Dominican Republic

WILLEMSTAD – The Parliament of Curaçao has decided not to accept the invitation from housing foundation FKP to visit the Dominican Republic for a work trip.

The invitation from FKP has sparked considerable debate in recent weeks. The trip was intended to showcase the large-scale housing project Ciudad Juan Bosch, which is considered a model for sustainable urban development.

The invitation faced significant criticism, particularly from PAR Member of Parliament Ana-Maria Pauletta, who questioned the relevance of the trip in light of Curaçao’s own housing issues. Pauletta also pointed out that FKP has not yet submitted approved financial statements and suggested that the organization should focus on maintaining existing homes on the island.

Ultimately, Parliament President Charetti America-Francisca (MFK) explained that the trip was not feasible due to budgetary constraints. “We must also consider the limited travel budget of the Parliament,” said America-Francisca.
