Weeks after President Donald Trump declared his intention to buy Greenland for America, a Republican congressman presented legislation to rename the territory “Red, White, and Blueland.”
For those who don’t know, Greenland is a Danish territory in the Arctic that governs itself. Additionally, Denmark has emphatically stated — repeatedly — that it is not for sale.
That did not deter Buddy Carter, a Georgia Republican serving in the House of Representatives since 2015, from drafting the Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025.
According to The Independent, “the proposed bill would direct the secretary of the interior team to ensure federal paperwork gets updated to the Stars and Stripes-inspired new name” within half a year.

In a comment to the New York Post, Carter said the following: “America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland. President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our negotiator-in-chief inks this monumental deal.”
Before taking office for his second term on Jan. 20, Trump said he would not rule out the use of military force to seize control of Greenland, calling it vital to U.S. national security. His oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., visited Greenland last month and told citizens: “We’re going to treat you well.”
In retaliation for Trump’s insistence on claiming Greenland, a petition began for Denmark to buy California. The tongue-in-cheek website for the petition proposed some changes for the Golden State, including renaming Disneyland to Hans Christian Andersenland.
“Let’s be honest – Trump isn’t exactly California’s biggest fan. He’s called it ‘the most ruined state in the Union’ and has feuded with its leaders for years. We’re pretty sure he’d be willing to part with it for the right price. And hey, we’ll even throw in a lifetime supply of Danish pastries to sweeten the deal,” the website reads.
The petition has rallied over 218,000 signatures of its present 500,000 signature goal.
