It might have been mismanagement on the UN staff’s part as they failed to give him a glass or maybe the thirst was too overwhelming, but the damage is done. Social media users pounced on the opportunity to joke about it, and as always, there were some who crossed the line.
“No way this is real? Is this legit,” asked a user about the rare sight. “They probably didn’t give him a glass,” wrote another.

Fils rose to his current status after armed gangs in Haiti removed former Prime Minister Ariel Henry from power earlier this year.
He is the President of the Presidential Council of the Transition of the Republic of Haiti which is meant to establish the new government. But most importantly, he represents the country from where scores of migrants enter the United States, many illegally.

During his speech, Fils slammed former US President and candidate for the 2024 elections Donald Trump who is fanning the rumours about illegal immigrants eating pets. He also said that these claims could result in prejudice against Haitians across the world.
“The passions that naturally arise during an election campaign should never serve as a pretext for xenophobia or racism in a country such as the United States, a country forged by immigrants… which has become a model of democracy for the world,” Fils said in his speech.
