Captain America: Brave New World

Captain America: Brave New World lands in theaters this week, going head-to-head with Paddington In Peru. The film will be the second-to-last in the MCU’s fifth phase, with Thunderbolts wrapping up sequence and Fantastic Four: First Steps kicking off Phase 6.
The new Captain America features Anthony Mackie as the new titular hero, with Harrison Ford taking on the role of US president Thaddeus Ross / Red Hulk. Other cast members include Liv Tyler, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Giancarlo Esposito and Tim Blake Nelson.
The film picks up after the events of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, which also laid the groundwork for Thunderbolts (basically Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad). Sam Wilson (Mackie) takes up Captain America’s vibranium shield and his own vibranium wingsuit as he’s plunged into an international incident involving the Serpent Society, led by Seth Voelker / Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito) following the election of Ross as president. Joaquin Torres (Ramirez) fills Wilson’s old shoes as the new Falcon. Haas plays Ruth Bat-Seraph, an Israeli former Black Widow.
The official synopsis reads: “After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.” The film is being billed as a thriller, and I’m getting Manchurian Candidate vibes from the description and trailers.
Will There Be End-Credits Scenes?
The film has 2 hour and 15 minute runtime, including end-credits scenes. As of this writing, there are no reviews posted for the film yet, and we know very little about the mid-credits and post-credits scenes. We do know that there will be two scenes following the film, one during the credits and a second after the credits finish rolling. Minor spoilers ahead.
The mid-credits scene reportedly features Wilson assembling a new Avengers team, presumably giving us a glimpse of the heroic lineup in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
As of now, there is currently no information about the final post-credits scene. It’s possible we’ll get some kind of teaser for Thunderbolts or something to do with Phase 6 and the leadup to Doom. It’s just as likely that the second scene will be something goofy and unimportant, which is often the case. Once I know more, I’ll update this post.
I’ll be at the movie this Thursday. Look for my review here on this blog Friday.
