Residents urged to stay indoors as Beryl continues to menace SVG

Residents of St Vincent and the Grenadines have been advised to stay indoors as strong winds from Hurricane Beryl still poses a threat to life and property.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves made the appeal as he lamented the devastation caused by Beryl, which impacted the country as a Category Four hurricane today.

“We have begun to receive heartbreaking reports out of Union Island and the Southern Grenadines, even as our agencies desperately attempt to reestablish communications with certain sections and ascertain the extent of the damage to the mainland. We are still under a tropical storm warning. Please remain indoors and out of harm’s way,” Gonsalves stated.

St Vincent and the Grenadines is being impacted by the rare of the hurricane, which has maximum sustained winds that are near 150 mph (240 km/h).

At 5pm, Beryl’s centre of circulation was located 205 kilometres northwest of Grenada.

Gonsalves is set to hold a national address soon to update citizens on the damage.
