The Proteas want to kick on from their performance in the first Test when they face the West Indies from Thursday Guyana.
Rain played a big part in the 1st Test ending in a draw in Trinidad & Tobago last week, while more inclement weather is predicted for only the Test venue in South America.
The ground is renowned for being spin friendly and Dane Piedt of the Knights can come into contention to play. In addition, the left-arm seamer Nandré Burger, could also get an opportunity to play this week.
Despite the seven lost sessions in Trinidad & Tobago there were good batting performances by South Africa, while Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada were simply outstanding with the ball.
The Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, told OFM Sport they have a lot of confidence going into the Test.
“The confidence is growing within the team and like I said before the tour, it’s a young and inexperienced side,” said Bavuma.
“I think with that, guys need to see themselves performing well in certain parts of the game, and then obviously building from that confidence and those performances.
“If I look at the inexperience within the bat, a guy like Tony de Zorzi, t the front, him going on to get a half century in the first things and then backing it up again in the second innings with a 40-odd score, I think he’ll take a lot of confidence from that.
“Tristan Stubbs as well with his second innings half century, the way he went about it, I think is what is exciting for us as a team. We obviously know that the more-and-more he plays, he’ll be able to find that right tempo and be able to play the way Tristan Stubbs can, where he can put bowlers under pressure.
“Those are the little moments, and there’s more of them. Those are the little moments within the game we’d like to take. It’s just a case of us building on that, putting it all together, which I believe will really make us a formidable team.”
Play at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown is scheduled to get underway at 16:00 on Thursday.
