PHOENIX — Former President Donald Trump heaped blame on the Biden administration, calling the country the “garbage can of the world” due to undocumented migrants during an immigration-heavy speech in Arizona on Thursday.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever said that and every time I come up and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angrier and angrier,” Trump said at Mullett Arena in Tempe. “[It’s the] first time I’ve said garbage can but it’s a very accurate description.”
Trump, as he has for months, criticized the work of his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, on immigration and all border-related issues.
The Republican said Nov. 5, which is Election Day in the country, would serve as “liberation day in America.”
“The United States is now an occupied country and it soon will be an occupied country no more,” Trump said.
Trump goes after undocumented migrants in Arizona speech
The former president, in his nearly hourlong speech on the campus of Arizona State University, laid out plans on how he’d slow the flow of illegal immigration into the country.
Trump said he’d launch the “largest deportation program” in American history after he took office.
“On Nov. 5, the migrant invasion ends and the restoration of our country begins,” Trump said.
He also said he’d invoke a 225-year-old series of legislation that was passed at the time in preparation for war with France that also limited speech critical of the government.
Trump added that he would ban sanctuary cities and all welfare and benefits for undocumented immigrants.
Finally, he repeated strong rhetoric aimed at migrants who committed murder in the country.
“I am hereby calling for the death penalty for any migrant that kills an American citizen or law enforcement officer,” Trump said.
Trump will be back in Arizona in a week when he appears at an event with Tucker Carlson in Glendale on Oct. 31.
