ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Two years before the 2026 World Cup, another major soccer tournament is coming to Atlanta.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host two group matches in the tournament on June 20 and 27.

What is the Copa América?

The Copa América is the international soccer tournament in South America, held by CONMEBOL, South America’s soccer confederation.

CONMEBOL has 10 member nations: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The confederation often fills out the Copa América to 16 teams by inviting national teams from around the world. Most invitees come from North America’s confederation, CONCACAF, but nations such as Japan and Qatar have participated.

This year’s invitees are the U.S., Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama.

The tournament is normally held in South America, but this will be the second time the tournament will be held in the United States. The first time was a special 100th-anniversary edition in 2016.

Are there any Atlanta United players in the tournament?

The only current Atlanta United player in the tournament is defender Luis Abram, who will suit up for Peru.

Longtime United defender Miles Robinson is on the U.S. roster.

When are the matches in Atlanta?

The Benz will host the tournament’s opening match between Argentina and Canada Thursday at 8 p.m. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

The U.S. will play against Panama June 27 at 6 p.m. Gates will open at 4 p.m.

How should I get to the stadium?

The stadium is flanked by the GWCC-CNN Center and Vine City MARTA stations, which will provide the easiest access to the stadium.

If you’re driving, parking is available on the stadium’s website.

What can I bring into the stadium?

Clear bags and non-clear bags smaller than 4.5″ x 6.5″ are permitted in the stadium.

What if I’m not going?

Watch parties will be held all around Atlanta!

MARTA is holding a watch party for Argentina-Canada at the West End station beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday and the United States supporter group American Outlaws will host a pre-game tailgate before the U.S. plays Panama on June 27.

That party will be held at the supporter group’s lot near the stadium. American Outlaws will also hold a party at Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead on June 26.
